MATTIE L. BAGBY-OWENS

HAMPTON – Mrs. Mattie Louise Bagby-Owens, daughter of the late Junius Bagby, Minnie B. Bagby and James Taylor (stepfather), died on Thursday evening, August 4, 1994, in Sentara Hampton General Skilled Care Facility, where she had resided for the past two-and-a-half-years.

She was born on April 19, 1921, in Richmond. She was the widow of Angle B. Owens Jr. She worked as a beautician for a number of years and owned Owens Beauty Salon on Marshall Ave. in Newport News. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church East End, where she was a member of the missionary circle. She was a member of Prince Hall Chapter #214 O.E.S.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosilyn T. Dodson, and her husband, Antonne Dodson, of Hampton; their children, Antoine J.A. Dodson and Rahlyah M.D. Dodson, of Hampton; a sister, Johnette B. Owens, of Richmond; one brother, Junius Bagby, of Norfolk; eight sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at First Baptist Church E.E. with Rev. Woodrow M. Brown Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hampton University Cemetery. Viewing will be from noon until 6 p.m. today at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel and from 11 a.m. Monday until the hour of service at the church. Assemble at 609 New York Ave., Hampton, by 11:15 a.m. Arrangements by Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
