NEWPORT NEWS – Melvin Copeland, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Mr. Copeland was a native and lifelong resident of Newport News.
He retired as a maintenance worker from the city Waterworks Department. He was a veteran of the Navy.
Mr. Copeland was a member of Colossian Baptist Church and its Male Chorus.
Survivors include his mother, Fannie Mae Copeland of Newport News; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Newport News and Sylvia Cooper of Baltimore; and two brothers, Henry Copeland of Newport News and Leslie Copeland Jr. of Baltimore.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Colossian Baptist Church by the Rev. Irvin D. Melvin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in Carter Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel. The body will be placed in the church by 1 p.m. Saturday. The family and friends will assemble at 784 Shields Road, Newport News, by 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
