MICHAEL J. CLOONAN SR.
POQUOSON – Michael J. Cloonan Sr., 64, died Monday, Jan. 2, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Hampton.
He was born in Homestead, Pa., and had been a Peninsula resident for 26 years.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 after 21 years and from Hampton University Personnel ROTC.
He was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bridget Cloonan; four daughters, Anne McKechnie of Virginia Beach, Marie Luccahesi of Owings, Md., Cathy McBride and Patricia Jones, both of Poquoson; one son, Michael J. Cloonan Jr. of Norfolk; four sisters, Helen O’Donnell and Mary Folan, both of Pittsburgh, Pa., Margaret Heffernan and Catherine O’Donnell, both of Galway, Ireland; six brothers, James Cloonan, Bernard Cloonan and Thomas Cloonan, all of Pittsburgh, Festus Cloonan of Chicago, John Cloonan and Eddie Cloonan, both of Galway; and eight grandchildren.
A mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Langley Air Force Base Main Chapel. Burial will be in Veterans National Cemetery, Hampton.
A wake will be held at 7:30 tonight at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church.
