Mrs. Cunningham dies at hospital; rites incomplete

Survived by husband, one son; to hold funeral services at Hampton Baptist Church

Mrs. Nannie Wood Cunningham, wife of Harry Shields Cunningham, died at 1:50 yesterday afternoon in Dixie Hospital. She had been a patient at the hospital 14 days, and underwent an operation a week ago.

Mrs. Cunningham was the daughter of the late George Randolph Wood and Mrs. Nannie Byron Wood and was a member of one of the oldest families on the Peninsula.

Beside her husband, she is survived by a son, Rodman Cunningham; two grandchildren, Joan and John Randolph Cunningham; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Curtis of Hampton, Mrs. Margaret Underwood of Ashville, NC, and Mrs. Edward Steam of New York; and one brother, Robert Wood of Hampton.

Mrs. Cunningham was prominent in local music circles, and was a soprano soloist at the Kecoughtan Veterans Administration facility and a member of the choir of Hampton Baptist Church.

She also was a member of the Hampton chapter, Daughters of American Revolution; Hampton chapter, United Daughters of Confederacy; and the Hampton Senior Woman’s Club.

Funeral services will be held from the Hampton Baptist Church where she had been a member a number of years. Arrangements have not yet been completed.
