NED M. CHILDERS

HAMPTON – Ned M. Childers, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was a native of Franklin, N.C., and had been a Peninsula resident since 1940.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin. Mr. Childers retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1971 after 30 years. He was an Army and Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Eddis E. Childers; one daughter Faye C. Knight of Hampton; one brother, George Childers of Spokane, Wash; and one granddaughter.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday in W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home by the Revs. G. Thornton Hall and William C. Russ. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 tonight.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Riverside Respiratory Care, Riverside Regional Medical Center, 500 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News 23601.
