HAMPTON – Rachel M. Coleman, a retired cook, died Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Mrs. Coleman retired from Hampton University. The native of Chesterfield County, S.C., was a member of Queen Street Baptist CHurch and the Quarter Century Club.

Survived by her husband, John W. Coleman Sr.; two daughters, Trudy R. Coleman and Anne Chisman of Providence, R.I.; a son, John W. Coleman Jr. of Hampton; two sisters, Virgina Means of Dayton, Ohio, and Eliza Lee of Darlington, S.C.; two brothers, Jack McFarland of California and Erenest McFarland of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Viewing from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Smith Bros. Funeral Home and wake from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Queen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Anderson W. Clary Jr. Burial in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Body placed in church by 10 a.m. Assemble at residence by noon.
