RAY L. CHAPPELL
HAMPTON – Retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Ray L. Chappell, 66, died Thursday, June 15, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
A native of Mineville, N.Y., Mr. Chappell was a Peninsula resident for 27 years and was a member of East Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Norfolk. He was also a member of Elks Lodge No. 366, Hampton.
Mr. Chappell was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Navy in 1962 after 20 years service. He also retired as a ship test engineer from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1983 after 20 years service.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Chappell; three daughters, Kathleen Weiland of King George, Elizabeth Chappell and Sidney Chappell, both of Hampton; four sisters, Shirley Guynup of Westport, N.Y., Elizabeth Roberts of Port Henry, N.Y., Joan Trombly of Elizabethtown, N.Y., and Donna Rule of Mineville, N.Y.; one brother, Sherman Chappell of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Parklawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Louie Andrews.
