WILLIAMSBURG – Robert E. Wallace, husband of Geneva Wallace, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in Williamsburg Center Genesis Elder Care. Arrangements by Whiting’s Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

ROBERT ELMORE WALLACE, SR.

WILLAMSBURG – Robert Elmore “Bob” Wallace, Sr., 87, answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in Williamsburg Center Genesis Elder Care. His life began September 25, 1916, the son of the late Georgia Wallace and James Wallace, of Mulberry Island, Virginia (now Fort Eustis).

Robert served his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. Upon leaving the Army, his profession of choice was that of an electrician and he worked at the Naval Weapons Station for 33 years. He continued his profession well beyond his retirement by serving his community and his church. He was a lifelong member of Colossian Baptist Church, where he was Trustee Emeritus and a member of the Male Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Wallace, Sr.; sisters Sarah James, Viola Bennett; son, Robert Wallace, Jr.; daughter, Janice Page Banks; grandson, Joseph Henry Banks, III; and great-granddaughter, Meesha Barry.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Geneva Wallace; his daughter, Eunice Elaine Wallace Briggs (Henry Briggs); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his devoted friend, William L. Jones; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.

A homegoing service celebrating the life he lived will be held 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in New Zion Baptist Church, Longhill Road, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Robert A. Whitehead, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Colossian Baptist Church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 5913 Centerville Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003, in Colossian Baptist Church, 856 Ft. Eustis Blvd., Newport News. Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting’s Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
