SALLY W. CUMMING

HAMPTON – Sally Wilkins Cumming, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.

Ms. Cumming was a native of Lawrenceville and a Peninsula resident since 1919. She owned and operated a cafeteria food service firm from 1939 to 1949 at Langley Research Center, NACA, now NASA. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. John’s Woman’s Auxiliary and church school superintendent for the primary department for 30 years. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include two daughters, Anna Cumming Jeffries of Virginia Beach and Louise Cumming Smither of Richmond; a son, James W. Cumming of Hampton; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church by the Rev. Rodney L. Caulkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence and requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. John’s Episcopal Church Discretionary Fund, 100 W. Queensway, Hampton 23669.
