SARA R. COOPER

HAMPTON – Sara Rosenstein Cooper, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 7, in Hampton Sentara Hampton General Hospital.

A native of Baltimore, Mrs. Cooper had been a Peninsula resident since 1902. She retired as president of I. Cooper’s Inc., Hampton, in 1980. Mrs. Cooper was a member of B’Nai Israel Congregation.

Mrs. Cooper was past president of B’Nai Israel Sisterhood, past president of the Hampton Chapter of Hadassah, past president of Hampton Visiting Nurses’ Association, past matron of Colonial Chapter No. 40 Order of the Eastern Star. She was past grand marshall of the Grand Chapter of Virginia Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the National Council of Jewish Women and a life member of Hadassah. She attended Syms-Eaton Academy, Hampton High School and the Newport News Business College.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhea Tannen and Jeanette C. Greenberger, both of Hampton; one brother, Aaron Rosenstein of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at B’Nai Israel Synagogue by Rabbi Norman Golner. Burial will be in Hebrew Cemetery.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Mrs. Joseph Greenberger, 4024 Chesapeake Ave.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the B’Nai Israel Synagogue or to a favorite charity.

Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, is in charge.
