SYLVIA B. WATERS
NEWPORT NEWS – Sylvia Blackman Waters, 74, a native of Newport News and a Peninsula resident for more than 40 years, died Saturday, June 26.
Mrs. Waters was a member of Rodef Sholom Temple, Rodef Sholom Sisterhood and National Council of Jewish Women. She was past president of the Newport News Chapter of Hadassah, past board member of United Jewish Community, was active as a coordinator for the Grand Club of the Jewish Community Center and assisted in the resettlement of Soviet immigrants.
Survived by a daughter, Susan Waters Simmons of Virginia Beach; a son, Howard B. Waters of Newport News; and a grandchild.
Funeral 3 p.m. today at Rodef Sholom Temple by Rabbi Neal Scheindlin. Burial in Rosenbaum Cemetery. The family is at the home of Howard Waters, 312 Central Parkway.
