THOMAS V. WATKINS
POQUOSON – Thomas “Vincent” Watkins, 85, a lifelong resident of Poquoson, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997.
Vincent was an accomplished pianist and organist who taught the art of music to others throughout his lifetime. He was decorated as the city of Poquoson’s official historian and was a founding member of the Poquoson Historical Society. He was also a charter member of the Peninsula Music Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Emma Freeman Watkins; son and daughter-in-law, Russell V. and Jan Shores Watkins of Elkgrove, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Carroll Ann and E. Wayne Martin of Poquoson; brother, the Rev. Beverly Watkins of Portsmouth; four grandsons, Arron W. Martin, Thomas E. Martin, Neil G. Watkins and Kenan L. Watkins; and one great-grandson, Jacob A. Martin.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Helveston. Interment will be Smith Cemetery. Visitation will be held today at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
