VERDELL CHATMAN

HAMPTON – Verdell W. Chatman, 66, a native of Hampton, died Thursday, March 19.

She retired as the manager of the Holly Tree Inn at Hampton University after 39 years. She was a member of Gray’s Missionary Baptist Church in Hampton, the Senior Choir, the Angelic Choir, Pastor’s Aid Club, Hampton University Quarter Century Club, Amicae of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Between Us Girls Social and Civic Club and St. Mary’s Household #29.

Survived by a daughter, Bernice Williams of Richmond; a son, T. Arnold Chatman of Hampton; one sister, Juanita Ward of New York; five brothers, George Williams of Raleigh, Robert Ward of Atlanta, Leon Ward of Enterprise, Ala., Calvin Ward and Walter Ward of New York; and a grandchild.

Visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home. Funeral at noon Monday at Gray’s Missionary Baptist Church, Hampton, by the Rev. Royal C. Wesley. Burial in Hampton University Cemetery. Family will assemble at 209 Regents St., Apt. 1, by 11 a.m. Monday.

Body placed in church at 10 a.m. Monday.
