Cave In Victim Dies of Injuries

Wade David Chester of 535C 21st St., Newport News, an employee of the city waterworks department injured in a cave-in June 14, died Friday in Dixie Hospital.

Chester, a negro, was working with the city crew near the Back River Estates subdivision in Hampton when the wall of a trench gave away, trapping him beneath some three feet of earth.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shirley T. Chester; a stepson, Tony Horton of Newport News; three brothers, James Chester of Newport News, Jack Horton of Philadelphia and John T. Chester of Booneville, MO; his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Cobb of Philadelphia; and three foster sisters, Mrs. Helen Johnson, Miss Janelle Cobb and Mrs. Frances Alston, all of Philadelphia.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Wade David Chester, Negro, of 535C 21st St., Newport News, will be conducted at 1pm Wednesday in Franklin Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. S. D. Thomas, pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Shade Cemetery.

He was an employee of the city waterworks department. He died Friday in Dixie Hospital from injuries sustained in a cave in June 14 while at work.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Shirley T. Chester; a stepson, Tony Horton of Newport News; three brothers, James Chester of Newport News, Jack Chester of Philadelphia and John T. Chester of Booneville, MO; his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. George Cable of Philadelphia; and three foster sisters, Mrs. Helen Johnson, Miss Janelle Cobb and Mrs. Frances Alston, all of Philadelphia.
