YORK – Wallace Donald Clift, 58, of Seaford, died Tuesday, July 7.

A Peninsula resident since 1969, he retired in 1975 as chief warrant officer and navigational and seamanship instructor at Fort Eustis after 23 years in the Army, including stints in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Mr. Clift was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of Stars and Bars. He was a merchant marine captain, captain of a research vessel for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and worked as a claims adjuster for USPNI in Norfolk.

A Tampa, Fla. native, he was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, and Transportation Masonic Lodge 0337, Newport News.

Survived by his wife, Martha J. Clift; a daughter, Karen L. Walker of Tampa; three sons, Dennis W. Clift and Robert D. Clift of Tampa and Wallace D. Clift Jr. of Bryceville, Fla.; his parents, Evelyn and Wayne Bacon of Tampa; two sisters, Barbara J. Hendrix of Big Creek, Miss., and Shirley A. Ferdinando of Homosassa, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Masonic service at 7 tonight at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Visitation afterward at funeral home. Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, by the Rev. Carleton Bakkum.

Graveside service with military honors at 11 a.m. Monday in church cemetery.
