WAYNE B. CHAUNCEY
NEWPORT NEWS – Wayne Byers Chauncey, 94, lifelong Newport News resident, diedTuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Mr. Chauncey retired from Sprague Coal Co. as vice president of the Peninsula office in 1965 after 45 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Chauncey was the son of the late Thomas Alexander and Edith Hutchins Chauncey. He is survived by his wife, Harriet “Pat” Long Chauncey; and four nephews, Edwin H. Chauncey of Richmond, Warren F. Chauncey of Virginia Beach, Robert Chauncey of Portsmouth and Harrison K. Chauncey of Palm Beach, Fla.
A graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday in Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Gene Gee of Trinity United Methodist Church. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
