Wayne Harris Wells, 69, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, in York County, Va.

He was a native of Richmond, Va., and resident of Yorktown, Va., for 17 years. Wayne worked as a Contract Specialist for NASA Langley and retired from NASA as a GS-13 after 31 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Captain. Wayne was involved in many organizations and clubs including four hunt clubs with one of Wayne’s favorite hobbies being deer hunting, a member of NCMA, NRA, Heritage Foundation, and he enjoyed bowling. Wayne was a graduate of Warwick High School in 1960 and VA Tech in 1964 where he participated in Army ROTC program and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. upon graduation. He served in the Quartermaster Corp. and received an Honorable Discharge as a Captain. Wayne also received many honors and awards from NASA as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard P. Wells and Myrtle I. Wells.

Survivors include his wife, Geanette G. Gildner MacKay Bloxom Wells; two daughters, Karen L. Wells and stepdaughter, Cindy M. Allman; three sons, Mark B. Wells and stepsons, David A. MacKay and Thomas A. MacKay; four very close cousins from Richmond; six grandchildren, Jack Ryan Wells and his younger brother; and four stepgrandchildren, Dawn Stewart (Greg), Dallas Allman (Amanda), Taylor and Taryn MacKay; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Stewart; and a special little dog named Leo.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Peninsula Funeral Home with burial in Peninsula Memorial Park following the funeral.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
