YORK – Wendell E. “Shag” Wright, 70, a lifelong resident of Lackey, died Saturday, Feb. 13.

Mr. Wright retired in 1972 from the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Newport News. He was a member of Colossian Baptist Church, Newport News.

Survived by two daughters, Phyllis James of Newport News and Deborah Sullivan of Virginia Beach; a son, Marlon Wright of Edgewater Park, N.J.; two sisters, Eva Wallace and Pauline Burks of Lackey; a brother, Harold S. Wright of Powhatan; and six grandchildren.

Viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Whiting’s Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

Funeral noon Thursday at Colossian Baptist Church by the Rev. Irvin D. Melvin. The body will be placed in the church by 10 a.m. Burial in church cemetery. Assemble at the residence of his niece at 1200 Old Williamsburg Road, Lackey, by 11 a.m.
