William M. Cole

William Marion Cole, 77, of 2307 Chestnut Ave., Newport News, died at 9:30 AM yesterday in a Peninsula hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for an illness.

Mr. Cole, who had been reared in Southhampton County near Newsomes, had been a resident of Newport News since 1919. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Cole.

During World War I, he served in civilian defense with the DuPont Powder Plant, Hopewell. In Newport News, his business included all of Virginia, in which he represented five New York wholesale houses as traveling salesman to retail merchants.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport News, and the Men’s Bible Class of that church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Octavia Eley Cole, Newport News; one daughter, Mrs. Wayland H. Parr, Alexandria; two sons, C. Eley Cole, Hampton, and James Channing Cole, Warwick, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at two Monday afternoon in Peninsula funeral home with the Rev. Bruce H. Price, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery.
