W. F. Wilkinson dies, aged 81
William F. Wilkinson, formerly of Newport News and Washington, died about noon yesterday at a hospital in Mathews County at the age of 81, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Wilkinson was born in Pittsylvania County, near Danville, September 15, 1875. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wilkinson. With the family he moved to Newport News in 1897, where for a number of years he was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. Later he entered the insurance business on the Peninsula in which he continued until he moved to Washington about 25 years ago. In Washington, he was associated with the Washington Star for 15 years until his retirement several years ago.
In 1905 Mr. Wilkinson was married to Miss Minnie Daniels of Staunton, who died in 1933.
Mr. Wilkinson returned to the lower Peninsula to make his home in February of this year.
He is survived by one son, William F. Wilkinson Jr. of Bethesda, MD and the following sisters and brothers; Mrs. Randolph T. Clarke of Arlington, Mrs. Jean W. Stevens of Newport News, Mrs. Anne W. Gray of Hampton, and Commander E. Wilkinson, USN (Ret.) of North Miami Beach, Fla., and H. Hoge Wilkinson of Newport News and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 PM EST at the Hysong funeral home in Washington. Burial will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery.
