DOROTHY NEELEY

HAMPTON – Dorothy Neeley went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998,after a courageous, two-year battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton and an active member of Hampton Roads Community Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Jeff Cunningham and Mitch and Valerie Cheek of Hampton; her mother, Ruth C. Bruce of Tennessee; a sister, Ruth Anne Roberts of Roanoke; brothers, Terry Bruce and David Bruce of Newport News; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, Hannah, Troy and Noah.

Dot truly loved her family and others, as was shown in her life. Her desire was for those she met to know and grow in Christ, and she lived that in her daily life. She taught small children at the missions and Sunday school, counseled teens at camp, taught ladies’ Bible studies as well as involving herself in one-on-one counseling in women’s lives. She enjoyed life, and we are proud to call her mother and friend. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home by Pastor Ray Zander and Pastor Gary Stewart with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Hampton Roads Community Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1236, Grafton, Va. 23692.
