DELLA R. NEWBY
NEWPORT NEWS – Della Ruth Newby, 57, died Friday, Dec. 28, in her home.
A native of Emporia, Mrs. Newby was a resident of the Peninsula for 40 years and a member of the Church of Living Waters.
Survivors include three daughters, Ethel E. Cooke and Betty Ann Parson of Decatur, Ga., and Mattie M. Cherry of Newport News; two sons, Terrance R. Newby and Jerry R. Newby of Newport News and Willie R. Newby of Germany; six sisters, Mary E. Walker of Washington, D.C., Sarah Green of Richmond, Geneva Parker of Newport News, Hattie Mae Joel of Hampton, Annie C. Hartiwanger of Columbia, S.C., Delois Levy of Upper Marlboro, Md.; four brothers, Matthew Pair Jr. of Hampton, Roy Lee Pair of Newport News, Robert Lee Pair of Temple Hill, Md., and Glen C. Pair of Laurel, Md.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Cooke Bros. Funeral chapel by Elder Northlee. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
Family and friends are to assemble by 12:15 p.m. Friday at 1014 Faubus Drive, Newport News.
