JOSEPH H. CEPHAS SR.

HAMPTON – Joseph H. Cephas Sr., 92, passed away on Oct. 15, 1997, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital. A native of Henrico County, he retired from the Newport News Shipyard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bernice Cephas, and a son, Joseph H. Cephas Jr.

He is survived by one son, David Cephas; one sister, Victoria Arnold of Washington, D.C.; and five nephews, three nieces, one grandson and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Deacon Cephas was an active and beloved member of Second Baptist Church East End, Christian Men’s Fellowship, bible study groups, and the Historic Aberdeen Gardens Guild. In addition to his Second Baptist Church family, he was dearly loved by his many Christian friends at St. Paul AME Church.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Second Baptist Church East End. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and two hours before the service Saturday at the church.
