MABEL S. YODER

Mabel Smucker Yoder, 90, of Barhamsville, died Thursday, April 29, 1999, after many years of declining health with Alzheimer’s.

She was born on October 20, 1908 in Wayne County, Ohio. She moved to Denbigh in 1910 as a young girl. She was a lifelong member of Warwick River Mennonite Church. She was married 64 years to Amos J. Yoder, who preceded her in death by one month and 15 days.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Fries of Sarasota, Fla., Harold “Ted” Yoder, and his wife, Sue, of Newport News, Marion Delagrange, and her husband, Mel, of Barhamsville, and Dorothy Miller, and her husband, Rodney, of Chesapeake; two sisters, Naomi and Elizabeth Smucker, both of Harrisonburg; two brothers, the Rev. Daniel Smucker, and his wife, Frances, of Harrisonburg, and the Rev. Paul Smucker, and his wife, Heidi, of Spring Mills, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 3, at Warwick River Mennonite Church with the Rev. Gordon Zook and the Rev. Bob Mast, Mabel’s nephew of Chesapeake, officiating. The family will receive friends afterwards in the fellowship room. Burial will be private.

Memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hampton Roads Chapter, 20 The Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk 23502.
