CECIL H. NICE

NEWPORT NEWS – Cecil Harold Nice, 64, of Newport News, died on Friday, April 4, 2003, at home.

Mr. Nice was born and raised in Newport News. He attended Warwick High School and graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School. In 1958 he joined his brothers in a building and land development business, Nice Brothers, Inc., where he worked as the business office and financial manager.

He had many interests and hobbies including being an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and especially saltwater fishing. He was a faithful husband, loving father and proud grandfather. He was also a very generous man, who throughout his life, found great joy in helping others. He was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church.

Mr. Nice was preceded in death by his parents, Lulu J. Nice and Henry L. Nice, and one brother, Henry R. Nice, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judith Layman Nice; two daughters, Karen N. Conley and her husband, David A. Conley, of Hampton, Beverly N. Stanfield and her husband, Jeffrey T. Stanfield, of Chester, VA; two sons, Eric G. Nice and his wife, Marie G. Nice, of Newport News, and Alex J. Nice of Charlottesville; nine grandchildren, Simeon Conley, Julia Conley, Jessica Conley, Anna Conley, Luke Stanfield, Jacob Stanfield Emma Grace Stanfield, Olivia Nice, and Jackson Nice; four sisters, Lulu Heatwole and Dorothy Blosser, both of Harrisonburg, Ruby Ziegler of Newport News, Bertha Schaefer of Powhatan; three brothers, Louis B. Nice of Charles City, Daniel B. Nice and George J. Nice, both of Williamsburg; and many nieces, nephews, as well as grand nieces and grand nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 8th, at 11 a.m. at Warwick River Mennonite Church, 250 Lucas Creek Road, Newport News. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private.
