HENRY R. NICE SR.

NEWPORT NEWS – Henry Robert Nice Sr. of Newport News died Thursday, March 14,1996, at age 66.

After graduating from Warwick High School, Henry began what would prove to be his life’s work, contracting and developing. Henry later joined his brothers, Louis, Daniel, George and Cecil, who survive him, in Nice Brothers Inc., and together they developed real estate and built homes in this area for over 40 years.

Henry, along with his brothers, developed and built much in the Denbigh area, including the Nicewood and Beechwood subdivisions. He was also a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church.

Henry is survived by Pauline Wenger Nice, his wife of 45 years, and their six children, Cheryl J. Nice, Delores A. Nice, Donna Nice Sawyer, Cynthia K. Nice, Henry R. Nice Jr. and Brenda Nice Lytle.

He is also survived by his sisters, Irene Heatwole, Dorothy Blosser, Ruby Ziegler and Bertha Schaefer; seven grandchildren, Casey and Leigha Sawyer, Samuel and Benjamin Campion, Preston and Brendan Frantz and Ashley Lytle.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Warwick River Mennonite Church with the Rev. Gordon Zook and the Rev. Glendon Blosser officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to The Brotherhood Fund, c/o Warwick River Mennonite Church, 253 Lucas Creek Road, Newport News, Va. 23602.
