Mrs. Jane Shelton Dies Suddenly

Mother of Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Elizabeth City County Passes Away

Funeral services of the late Mrs. Jane E. Shelton, who died Saturday night at her home near Buckroe Beach, were held from the residence yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The services were in charge of Rev. Reverdy Estill, D. D., rector of St. John’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Shelton, who was the widow of the late Charles Shelton, and mother of Mr. Harry C. Shelton, chairman of the board of supervisors of Elizabeth City County, had resided here all her life. She was born April 22, 1834, and therefore lacked only eleven days of being 77 years old. At her request the funeral was a simple one, only immediate relatives being in attendance. Mrs. Shelton is survived by one son and one daughter, Mrs. H. F. Williams.

Although Mrs. Shelton has been in feeble health several years, her death came suddenly from an attack of the heart. She was unusually well on Saturday and up to the minute of her death seemed to be in a cheerful disposition.

The pallbearers were Messrs. G. K. Sinclair, J. T. Lee, C. B. Phillips, G. O. Mears, Keith Sinclair Jr., Gilbert Phillips, Curt Phillips and Rev. Reverdy Estill.
