WILLIAM J. COUNCILL

William J. Councill, 91, died Sunday, June 24, 2012.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Hampton until moving to The Chesapeake. ‘Billy’ served in the Army Air Corps, during WWII, and then worked for the Veterans Administration as a physical therapist for many years until his retirement. He had been a member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Mr. Councill is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Councill; daughters, Ruth Stuntz of Belmont, Mass., and Carol Ahlquist and husband, Mark of Olivia, Minn.; grandchildren, Joel Ahlquist and wife, Liz, Rebekah Howell and husband, Kevin, Sarah Stuntz, Caleb Ahlquist, Sam Cook-Stuntz and wife, Liz, Andy Stuntz, and Isaac Ahlquist; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, by the Rev. Lawrence J. Biermann, with interment to follow in Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends first on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Blue Room at the Chesapeake; and then from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
